How Do You Feel About Negativity and Drama?
Some people thrive on negativity and drama. They put me in a bad way. I find myself frustrated most of the time.
For me or anyone else to stay in the space of a positive mindset we need to be as far away from negativity and drama as possible.
But how do we do that when we have so much of both around us?
We seek out goodness, positivity, and acts of selflessness and kindness. And where we can not find it, we make it.
To get an idea of what I mean, below I share five stories I found that demonstrate selflessness and an act of kindness.
I encourage you to not get caught up in spirit-killing drama and negativity. Instead surround yourself with goodness, selflessness, and acts of kindness, or create your own.
Students Raise Money for Shoes
This is a story that went through my newsfeed on Facebook. Classmates of a student recognized that he had been wearing shoes that were too small.
Rather than let that continue, they did something about it.
The students collected money. With the proceeds they collected they purchased, not one, but two pairs of shoes for the student.
What a great example of selflessness and an act of kindness from our youth.
Here is the video of the students helping a fellow student.
When you see someone in need do something about it.
Deputy Comes to Aid of Homeless Student
A deputy in Oktibbeha County Mississippi found a student sleeping in his car.
Deputy Rice took the young man into a Waffle House so that the young man could eat.
After Deputy Rice and some fellow officers dined with the young man Deputy Rice put the young man up for the night in a hotel.
His act of kindness went even further. The young man had been missing for three years. By Deputy Rice going above and beyond the young man was reunited with his family.
Of the experience, Deputy Rice said, “I call it a blessing. We get the opportunity to help people that’s in need.”
Oktibbeha County Sheriff, Steve Gladney had this to say, “Law enforcement is kind of tough, you know, you see the bad things, you very seldom see the good things like this.”

Let's make it our purpose to share more of the good that people do than the bad.
Employees Give an Early Christmas Gift
Everyday a young man would go to Best Buy in Valley Stream, New York to play the Nintendo Wii U gaming system.
Staff at the Best Buy, like the students mentioned above, collected money. What did they buy?
They purchased the Nintendo Wii U gaming system so that he no longer had to play it at Best Buy each day.
The young man was shocked and a bit cautious about accepting the gift. When he finally did give in, he shared that his parents could not afford to buy it.
From what CBS News New York reported, the YouTube video of the moment has positive comments. It also stated there were quite a few negative comments.
I bet we all could come up with negative comments, but why? Why take a gesture of kindness and turn it into something negative?
See the good in life.
Students Replace Janitor's Prized Possession
Every morning during the school year janitor William Manning, know as Wild Bill, cheerfully welcomes the students of Arvada High School.
He had a car for years that he loved.
In the middle of the night someone stole his prized possession.
To give back to the janitor that the students care for dearly, they started a fundraiser. From the fundraiser proceeds they were able to buy Wild Bill a car.
Replace loss with an act of kindness.
Perform a Good Deed
In a previous post I referred to a friend who surprised a gentleman with his act of kindness. Inspired by what my friend had done, someone else I know took it upon herself to perform a good deed.
Here is the really short version of the story: A woman did not have time to buy a train ticket as the train approached the station. My friend gave her a ticket. The woman insisted that she pay my friend, but she refused. She considered her selfless gift to the woman a gift from the universe.
We have the power to impart goodness upon others. Make the universe shine by showing kindness to others.
Are You Showing Selflessness and Acts of Kindness?
Just because these examples were related to monetary giving, please do not go away believing money is the only way to show selflessness and kindness.
You can spread kindness in many ways for free. The following is a very small list of examples to get you started:
- Check on a sick and shut-in or elderly neighbor.
- Share an umbrella in the rain with someone without one.
- Lend a listening ear.
- Smile at others just because.
Forget about negativity and drama. Help shine the light of selflessness and kindness by doing right by others everyday just because.
