While reading a book, scrolling through your newsfeed on Facebook, or listening to a speaker, you have probably nodded your head, clicked the “Like” or “Share” button, or perhaps jotted down a quote.
Why do we do that?
Because something about what was said or written resonated with us.
The quotes that affect us the most are the quotes that speak our truth. That is true of the feel good quotes and the ones that make us feel uneasy.
It is all right if such words make us feel uneasy or uncomfortable.
Those type of words are the ones that empower us. Those are the words that foster growth. Those are the words that encourage us to act and think differently. Most importantly, those are the words with transformative power.
Shared Can Also be Your Own
There are plenty of bright people out there whose quotes are shared in the ways that I stated above. Even so, I think we ought not limit ourselves to being inspired by others. Add yourself to the mix. Give yourself a talking to.
What words of encouragement do you need from yourself that will transform, encourage, and empower you?
To get an idea of what I mean, below I am sharing with you my own quotes. I shared these quotes with others, but the truth is that I created these words for myself while giving myself a talking-to.
After putting the words to an image, I then shared them on the can. will. DONE Facebook page.
Use these quotes as examples, then create you own.
Share them with others as someone probably needs them.
Lastly, be sure to keep them handy. I recommend keeping yours and other quotes handy because I have found that, whether it is my own thoughts or those from someone else, I sometimes need to be reminded of those words.
Quotes and Thoughts I've Shared
“I do not know about you, but I want more challenges so that I can grow and create more opportunities.”
This quote was meant as a reminder the value of challenges. I am sure at the time I was being challenged in some way. I used this quote to push me through that challenge.
What would you say to yourself while facing a challenge?
“Every new day brings with it an opportunity to take advantage of your opportunities. Embrace the new day.” (Yes, there is a typo in the image. Ugh!)
You can go to bed feeling defeated. The great thing is that, if you are able to wake up the next morning, you get the opportunity to try again. That is what is great about a new day.
“Seeing and making a difference in your life will never happen as a result of desire. Your desire lacks action.”
Currently I am working on self-publishing a book. As I was working through the process, I considered the times in my life when I said I desired to be or do something. Those desires, however, did not amount to much. I had not taken enough action to make those desires come to life.
What actions will you start taking to see and make a difference in you life? Create your own quote to use as a reminder.
“Wanting is not enough to get you what you want. Your wants require action. Start acting on what you want.”
Clearly I have to constantly remind myself about taking action. I use the words to always keep me moving towards what I say I want.
Write a quote to press you to doing what you say you want.
“If you don't expect much you will receive little.”
There have been times in my life when I have been cautious about having great expectations. The fear and belief was that if that I did not have expectations I would not end up disappointed.
As I have gone on a journey to losing weight, writing a book, and growing each day, I have embraced the belief that, to accomplish anything worthy, I have to first have big expectations.
To get to what I expect, I have to work bit by bit to get to where I want to be.
What are your great expectations?
“You are only as limited as your mind limits you.”
Oh boy. I always need to give myself a talking-to when my thoughts are telling me what I am not capable of doing.
This quote was a way for me to push whatever limiting thoughts I was going at the time out of the way.
Next time you have limiting thoughts, what will you say to yourself to get you out of your own way?
Shared Quotes Speak Your Truth
What I shared with you above are not mere words. These are the words that speak my truth for what I am going through at the time.
After I construct the words, I then take action on them. In turn, I grow from them.
I can be good for a while, but when a new challenge or a familiar limiting thought arises, I come back to these words to put me back on track.
Now that you have examples, take some time to do the same for yourself. Or, when you find yourself having a moment, write a quote for yourself, then share it.
