How Prepared Are You When Life Happens?
When I decided to go to graduate school I had a plan: get a masters degree to add to my credentials, add value to my company, and eventually get promoted. There was one important plan missing from the master plan, however.
When it came to what I ate, I had no plan of attack to deal with demands of graduate school while in my forties and working full-time. I wish I had planned that part of my life. Had I done so, I probably would not have gained 100 pounds over the four year span it took me to complete my program.
Power in Planning
Understanding now how important it is to plan and prepare, I make it a point to share that understanding with others. That includes people like you. Planning and preparation makes a world of difference.
Here is how powerful it is: when you understand its power and you put planning and preparation into action, not only will you save yourself from resorting to an unhealthy lifestyle, but you will also be able to quickly adjust to the unexpected situations and circumstances in your life.
Take me for example. With a recent move that I made, my routine is completely out of whack. Because where we are currently living is temporary and came without a refrigerator, we purchased one that is only slightly bigger than a dorm refrigerator. For some, this limitation on food options would be the time when people fall off the wagon, then revert back to or fall into unhealthy eating habits.
Even though my circumstances have changed and my routine is off, because I understand the importance of planning and preparation, I can effectively maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Execute Your “Life Happens” Healthy Plan
One of the ways in which I can do that is by having healthy options available. That is something that I failed to do in graduate school when I gained those 100 some odd pounds.
There are various adjustments I could have made back then, but today I share with you probably one of my biggest offenses while in graduate school: snacking. I did way too much of it and with foods that were not anywhere close to healthy.
In this post I share with you the strategy I take now and that I wish I had taken while in graduate school. It is a simple strategy. In fact, I have started part of the process for you in this post. If you are like me and do not have a creative bone in your body, you will love this. Drum roll please.
Do a Google search. Specifically, that search would be for portable healthy snacks. That's it. Ok, not really. Go to the next step.
Look through the top search results. What you want to look for are natural snacks. What I mean is to look for foods that are minimally processed and preferably do not come in a box or package. Don't know if something is overly processed?
Check out the Fooducate app. It takes the guess work out for you.
Those are my tips for you, but today you do not have to worry about any of them too much. You will see why next.
The plan has been started for you. I have started the process for you. I looked through several links. In the end I was the most satisfied with these five links. Together you have over 100 ideas. No heavy duty lifting about thinking of something to eat here. To me, the hard part is over.
