Results of a Push Goal
I realized that when we stay stuck in our worries, fears, self-doubts, and uncertainty we block possibilities. It is because of that realization that I made a choice to change. It is when I changed my attitude that I was given opportunities to speak.
And much to my surprise a talent I never knew I had was revealed to me. I am a speaker.
When the idea hit me to write a book, I worried about not being famous. I feared no one would want my book. I had self-doubts about my ability to write a book, and I was uncertain of how to market the book. But, well, even with my worries, fears, self-doubt, and uncertainty you know what happened because I am standing here in front of you as an author.
The audience stood to their feet clapping. In complete disbelief I stood before a group of women and two men giving me a standing ovation. Me, Pamela Burke, who is not famous, who had worried about what to say that day, and who feared possibly making a fool of myself was given a standing ovation.
In that moment I felt like the dominoes had fallen. I was doing exactly what I had set out to do when I set my push goal in the beginning of the year. I was speaking in front of an audience giving a motivational and inspiring speech that would help transform lives.
As this year winds down, think about the goals that you would like to achieve in the coming months. A good place to start is with a push goal.
What is a Push Goal?
A push goal is a concept I learned from Michael Hyatt who learned it from Chalene Johnson. They say a push goal acts as a domino for all the other goals.
Find that one goal that if you accomplish it, it would make everything else easier. Then give that goal focus.
With that knowledge, at the beginning of the year I wrote out ten goals. For each of those goals, I listed why I wanted to accomplish those goals and a gave each goal a date to achieve it.
Of those ten goals, my push goal was to write a book. The belief was that if I could make that happen, it would make it much easier to achieve my goal as a speaker and to reach a new audience. That is exactly what happened, as evidenced by that moment described above.
Make This Coming Year the Best Year Ever
I am sure there are many years in my life that have been pretty dang great, but in recent years this year has been my best year ever.
To be able to say that I am a published author and to have that open up doors for me to speak is truly amazing.
Put your best year ever in motion. Take this time to consider what you would like to accomplish, then consider the push goal that will make it happen.
