What are Your Thoughts After an Intense Workout?
Most Saturday mornings start the same for me. They begin with a morning run. The distance varies in length, but a recent run covered 6.7 miles.
Currently, that amount of miles is pretty dang intense. Intense for me, that is.
As I stretched after the run, a thought hit me. How can I make this run count? What can I do to make sure it does not go to waste?
To waste?
Yes. Let me explain.
How many times at some point after a workout have you said to yourself, “I worked out today, so I can have….” and the word after “have” was always something other than healthy?
Are Intense Workouts Good for You? That Depends on You
That is what I mean by letting your work go to waste.
You worked intensely, so why let that go to waste?
For example, high intensity workouts, especially, are great. They are beneficial in that they do not require a lot of your time, they do not require equipment, you continue to burn fat after your workout, and they help you increase your metabolism.
And trust me, if you are perimenopausal or in menopause, your metabolism needs all the help it can get!
But…
Benefitting from an intense workout depends on what you do afterwards.
In this video I share an idea to help avoid thoughts such as “I worked out today, so I can have….” This way we will make sure an intense work out IS good for you, because quite frankly, the benefits depend on you.
