What is competing for your time and attention?
List all of them.
As you wrote them all down or thought about all that is tugging at you, did you want to put your hands to your ears and scream, “DEAR GOD! MAKE IT STOP!”?
All that clamoring is noise. Some of that noise is necessary. However, there is some noise you need to consider omitting.
The best way for you to distinguish between what is required and what can be pushed off, delegated, or eliminated requires action.
Specifically, it requires that you focus on quiet time.
Are You Making Time for Quiet Time?
Now, I know you are probably objecting to that idea. The last thing you believe you have on your side is time. I get that.
But have you ever tried stealing away for a quiet moment?
During a recent morning run I experienced something new. Odd even, at least for me. My mind wasn’t flooded with thoughts. I only had one focus – running.
Me not thinking about everything under the sun was a miracle!
But more importantly, that laser focus shut out the noises of life that typically overwhelm me. That experience helped me to realize the importance of quiet.
I highly recommend you give yourself permission to enjoy quiet time.
In fact, take a look at this video or listen to the audio below. Listen to the peacefulness of hearing nothing but nature.
Why You Should Make Time for Quiet Time
Hopefully you did not find quietness as too hard of an exercise. I highly recommend it. Doing such an exercise releases you from anxiety and overwhelm. It also clears your thoughts so you can better consider ways to eliminate or delegate some of the noise in your life.
Don’t end here. As I stated at the end of the video, “Take some time from whatever is competing for your time or your thoughts, your responsibilities, and give yourself an opportunity to let loose of the noise and enjoy the quiet.”
