Results Require a Mind Changing Process
Over the last few weeks I have noticed that when I post photos of the results of my weight loss transformation, especially on the can.will.DONE Facebook page, those posts get several likes and shares. When I post images or videos about changing our mindset or what it takes to transform ourselves, however, the reaction is nowhere near the same as the transformation photos. In fact, the reaction to mindset posts is almost silent.
It seems that the process is nowhere near as appealing as the the results. I get it. For some, the work I put in and the modifications I made to what I was eating over the last year to lose 75+ pounds seems unfathomable, too hard, too much work, and the mere thought of it is exhausting.
Here is the deal though. Without the process there would have been no results. I would have never had transformation photos to share had I never made a choice to change, did something to change, stayed committed to that change, and had I never been willing to be uncomfortable and challenged throughout my change.
Lessons from a Workout: First Transform Your Mind
The message I want to help people understand is that in any aspect of life that you want to change, you can see results, but it first requires transforming the way you think. All my messages share that, but over the last nearly two weeks I have been very deliberate in sharing that message. Each morning after I conclude a workout, on the can.will.DONE Facebook page, I have been sharing a quote along with inspiring words or a video sharing what I call “lessons from a workout.”
All of these lessons are focused on mindset. From the lessons I aim to show how important it is to focus on how we think. When we rewire our thinking is when we arrive at transformation. Below I share with you eight days worth of lessons. Let these lessons motivate you to put your change into action.
Day One:
Post from July 31st – Change happens when you move from where you are – We cannot expect to grow or to see a difference in our lives or our situations if we are not first willing to change. Decide what you will change starting today.
Day Two:
Post from July 30th – Do. Even when you are broken down, tired and fed up – Are you tired of fighting battles, tired of challenges, or tired of struggling? The only surefire way to break out of the doldrums is to do – take action. Hold your head up high and fight through your struggles.
Day Three:
Post from July 29th – Start thinking differently – If you want to see a difference in your life, you must first start thinking differently. In what mindset have you been stuck thinking? Recognize why you were thinking that way, then rework your thinking.
Day Four:
Post from July 27th – Refuse to quit – If you are uncertain, if you do not know what is coming next, if what you are facing is hard, push through it. Tell yourself, out loud, I REFUSE TO QUIT! After you have done that, keep going.
Day Five:
Post from July 26th – Make different choices – You know when it was that I realized I was good enough, smart enough, and when I started to believe in what I was capable of doing? It was when I started making different choices. A key choice was to change for nobody but me. Decide today to change for you. Start making different choices. Make choices that are for your good. Starting today, show that you believe you are good enough and smart enough.
Day Six:
Post from July 25th – Talking is not enough – You know the phrase, “All talk, no action?” Do what I did; go beyond thinking and talking about what you want. On this day, choose to do something to help get you what you want.
Day Seven:
Post from July 24 – Exercise the power of practice – If you truly want something: to change, to be a writer, to lose weight, whatever that something is for you, you have to put that something into practice. Jot down what you will start practicing, then start doing some form of it everyday.
Day Eight:
Post from July 23rd – Pay attention to your change – If you are not paying attention to your change, start. You will come to realize you are improving and progressing more than you are giving yourself credit for.
Start Practicing Mindset Transformation
I have shared with you eight days worth of mindset transformation themes. You may already be putting these suggestions into practice. Awesome! Continue to do so. If you have not yet reached this place of mind shift, take one lesson and start putting it to use. I would love to hear about the difference in your life once you do. If you know someone who would benefit from this post, please share it with them.
Start the discussion: Why do you think transformation results get more attention than the mindset change that is needed to get the results? Share in the post comments, on Facebook or Twitter.
