It is Coming – Are You Ready to Keep it Healthy?
It has been happening since August. Perhaps then you were not paying it much attention. In upcoming weeks though it will be smack dab in your face. Everywhere you turn you will see it. Before you know it, the situation will get worse. The question is, will you be ready for it? I am talking about the Halloween candy at your house, the leftover candy co-workers bring to the office, the Thanksgiving eats – pie, cake, banana pudding, sweet potato pie, plates piled high – and the Holiday parties where it is repeated all over again.
How to Prepare for the Treats Fest
I showed the paragraph above to Kelly. Her reaction was that it does not stop there. We then go into the New Year followed by Valentine's Day. The temptations seem to never end. Before you go off the deep end, let me first get you through October and the weeks before Thanksgiving. I will focus specifically on Thanksgiving and the holiday season in later posts. Here is what you need to do to prepare for the upcoming treats fest: Think healthy: You can say to yourself you are not going to cave into the treats around you, but as I have mentioned in a previous post, the key is to watch your language. If you tell yourself you will not do something negative, you more than likely will do exactly that. Rather than telling yourself and others that you will not cave into the treats, think and say you will choose healthy options. Speak up: I have seen people post photos on Facebook with the words “My current situation.” Right outside of their cubicle is a spread full of sugary treats. The simple mention of their situation tells me they are practically shaking trying to resist the temptation. This is the time when you need to speak up. Suggest that the treats be placed elsewhere. Let the group know you will be adding to the spread. See below to know what you will be providing. Be prepared: You know the routine. You know that every year there is the table loaded with treats at the office. Bring in healthy snack alternatives with you. Stock up on items such as almond packets, apple, banana, dark chocolate nibs, or something from this list of healthy portable snacks. Have these items for yourself, but also add them, with a smile, to the not healthy stash. Drink water: You can be prepared, but you can also take in too much of even the healthy things. To help you out, drink a lot of water. When you are sure to drink water, you increase your chances of not overdoing it on the portions.
