Which Choice Should You Make?
A hot latte with skim milk in hand, I was stopped by the vision of what was before me. I had two choices:
Choice 1. The easy way. Take the escalator
Choice 2. the harder and more challenging way. Walk the stairs.
For me, there was not much to think about. I did what I typically do. I walked the stairs. If the train is nearing, don't be surprised to see me running those stairs, often times getting up the stairs before the escalator riders.
Why Opt for the Harder and More Challenging Way?
The question is, why opt to walk, or run, the stairs?
Because that is the option with the greatest benefit to your life. Yes, the escalator would be easier, and maybe faster, but what would you gain, personally, from riding the escalator compared to walking or running the stairs? Not much.
Think about it. Think of all the times you backed off from a challenge, went with the status quo, or stayed exactly where you are. What did you gain? Right, not much.
Look at some of the benefits to your life of walking or running the stairs.
- You would burn far more calories walking, or running, as a result of the added challenge.
- You would improve your overall health, reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, some cancers, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
- You would feel better about yourself from taking the greater challenge.
Do What is Easy or Do What is More Challenging?
You can take the same concept for any area of your life. When you are afraid, worried, or nervous by an up coming challenge or you find yourself constantly taking the easy way out, think about those stairs.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Which option will be better for me?
- From which option will I learn the most?
- From which option will I grow the most?
- Which option would provide the opportunity for life lessons?
- Which option will challenge me the most, thus helping me to learn and grow?
Here's a hint; the option that teaches you something, grows you, improves you, makes you more confident, yeah, choose that one.
Make a Choice: Do What is Easy or Be Challenged
Decide today what you want from your life. You have two choices.
Choice 1. If you want to remain where you are, take the stairs, the easy way.
Choice 2. If you want to be more confident, less afraid, learn from lessons, walk or run the stairs, taking the option that is more challenging.
