Rejection can be delivered in a variety of forms. By phone, text, email, letter, or face-to-face.
For example, I received an email that read as follows:
Due to limited space in the email, we’re only able to feature about 20% of the books that get submitted to us. Our editors review all the submissions that meet our minimum guidelines for a certain category and price point, and select the books within that group that they believe will perform best with our members. Other books the editors reviewed were better fits for our readers’ current tastes.
I deemed it a rejection letter via email.
How Does Being Rejected Feel?
Do you think it felt good to read that last line?
Other books the editors reviewed were better fits for our readers’ current tastes.
Rejection does not feel good. Your heart drops, disappointment ensues, and you start wondering “Why?”
How else does rejection feel?
It sucks. That how it feels.
It can be demoralizing, make you feel like you are not good enough, or like you're not wanted.
But…
That is only if you allow rejection to make you feel that way.
There are ways that you can deal with rejection.
Keep reading to learn some of the best ways to deal with rejection of any kind.
What is the Best Way to Deal with Rejection?
For me, at least, these are the best ways for me to handle rejection. Give them a try when you are dealing with rejection.
Believe that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Look for other options. You may have wanted what you wanted one particular way or from a specific source. If that source rejects you, consider other means of achieving what you want.
Put your eggs in more than one basket. When investing, it is recommended to not invest in one investment type. Instead, diversify. The same works with handling rejection. When one option does not work out, you have to have other options readily available to you. It could turn out that where you were rejected you did not need after all.
Think outside the box. We can get so fixated on one thought or idea that we lose sight of other possibilities. Walk away for a moment to gather yourself. After that, determine different ways to skin the cat, as referenced above.
Learn from the experience. I am a firm believer that our obstacles, including rejection, are our best teachers. Embrace that. Assess your situation. Determine what you can do differently. Note the lessons you learned from the outcome. Also get feedback to help you learn what you can do differently.
Put what you learn into action. Take what you have learned and use it to modify what you did prior to being rejected.
Put This Advice to Work
However it was that you have been rejected, you can handle it. Use the advice I have shared and you will be able to deal better with rejection.
As for me, I have reached out to several other sites to help me promote my book, Diet-Free Me: How to Stop Struggling, Lose Weight, and Embrace a Healthy Lifestyle. As the book gets more popular and I get it out to other markets than Amazon, I will try the site that rejected me again.
I will end with encouraging you to not give up when you have been rejected.
