I Gotta …
Is this you?
I have to drop the kids off at blah blah, then I have to help so and so with whatever, then pick the kids up and help them with their homework. And…
ALL of that is after I work another crazy and long day. And..
OH. MY. GOD.
The weekend. There is so much to do this weekend.
Oh snap! I just realized I never ate lunch. I guess I will grab McDonald's. There's no time to for anything else.
And then you continue on with all of your “I gottas.”
A few weeks later your pants are too tight. You want to be healthier, but…
You have – you guessed it – all those “I gotta.”
Where are You in Your Priorities?
Now, your story may not play out exactly like that, but I bet you can relate.
The bottom line is you want to eat healthier, but you simply do not have the time.
Interesting.
You have time for the kids, the spouse or partner, your work, the office mates, your mother, father, sister, brother, dog, the neighbor across the street, the….
Whew!
Yup, you have time for everybody and everything, but YOU.
When will you be your priority?
Will there ever be a time for you?
You Make Time for What You Want to Do – Why Doesn't That Include You?
Maybe, you don't really want to be healthier. (Did I just say that?)
Hey, look. I am as guilty of this at times too.
What is this?
This is making time for what you want to do, but why doesn't that include you?
We can say we want to do x, y, and z, but ain't none of that gonna happen if we don't make it happen.
And when x, y, and z of what we say we want to do does not happen, we need to take a look at ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves a very honest, keeping it real question:
Do I really want what I say I want?
Be honest.
Because you see, when we want to do this, that, and the other for others, we make it happen. Thus, we make time for what we want to do, or at least what we told ourselves we have to do.
Am I not speaking the truth?
It's Not Selfish to Make You a Priority
We make everyone and everything a priority over ourselves, then feel guilty when we merely think about making ourselves a priority.
In fact, you think it is selfish to make you a priority don't you?
Or you devalue your worth if you are not running all over kingdom come for others.
Stop that!
It is not selfish to take care of your mind, body, and spirit.
Heck, I think it is more selfish to not take care of yourself.
You won't be doing anyone any favors laid out on a gurney because your health wasn't your priority.
When are You Going to Make You a Priority?
I know. I went on a bit of a tangent in this post. Trust me. I mean no harm. My greatest joy is helping others.
But, seriously, when are you going to make you a priority?
The whole purpose of this post was to open your eyes.
We love our families and we do what we need to do in order to support and provide for our families.
However, we – you and I – should not pay the price to be that provision. Your health, both mental and physical, are important.
Please take heed to what I have written here. It is imperative, if you plan to be around for those that you love that you start making you a priority.
Fit YOU into what you want to do.
I hope after reading this, you sit down and see what and who you can remove from your life, how you can delegate more, and that when you will start using the word no a lot more often.
Go out there and start making yourself a priority today.
What are you going to pledge to do to make you a priority? Share in the post comments.
